Class Descriptions

Creative Movement (ages 3-5)

A fun introduction to ballet and classroom etiquette. This class teaches the basic ballet steps, positions and beginning terminology. Also includes fun learning and movement games, stretching and introduction to barre work. Basic skill assessments will be performed. This class will learn choreography to be performed (with instructor) in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress code: pink leather (full sole) ballet shoes, pink tights, hair in bun, light pink, light blue, light purple, or black leotard. Ballet skirts/tutus are optional.


Pre-Ballet 1 & 2 (ages 5-8)

A structured introductory ballet class. Students will learn ballet terminology, steps, and positions as well as barre exercises, center work, and across the floor combinations. Basic skill assessments will be performed. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress code: pink leather (full sole) ballet shoes, pink tights, hair in bun, light blue leotard, light pink hip alignment belt. No skirts please.


Ballet Level 1 (ages 7-11)

A structured beginning ballet class where students will continue to work on terminology, steps, positions and short combinations. Students will be expected to learn and study the vocabulary sheet provided by the instructor. They will practice barre work, center work, and across the floor exercises. Skill assessments will be performed. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress code: pink leather (full sole) ballet shoes, pink tights, hair in bun, forest green leotard, light pink hip alignment belt. No skirts please.


Ballet Level 1A (age 9 and up or with instructor approval)

Ballet level 1A, advanced level 1, is a structured beginning-intermediate ballet class where students will continue to work on terminology, steps, positions and short combinations. Students will be expected to learn and study the vocabulary sheets provided by the instructor. They will practice barre work, center work, and across the floor exercises. Skill assessments will be performed. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase. At this level, it is recommended students come to class twice a week.

Dress code: pink leather (full sole) ballet shoes, pink tights, hair in bun, forest green leotard, light pink hip alignment belt. No skirts please.


Ballet Level 2 (age 10 and up or with instructor approval)

A structured ballet class where students will continue to work on terminology, steps, positions and short combinations. Students will be expected to learn and study the level 2 vocabulary sheets provided by the instructor. There will be periodic quizzes for accuracy and understanding of concepts. At this level it is recommended students come to class twice a week. Skill assessments will be performed. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter/spring showcase.

Dress code: pink leather (full sole) ballet shoes, pink tights, hair in bun, navy blue leotard, light pink hip alignment belt. No skirts please.

Ballet level 3 (age 12 and up or with instructor approval)

A structured ballet class where students will continue to work on terminology, steps, positions and combinations. Students will be expected to learn and study the level 3/4 vocabulary sheets provided by the instructor. There will be periodic quizzes for accuracy and understanding of concepts. Skill tests will be performed for level advancement.

Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter/spring showcase. At this level, it is recommended that students come to ballet twice a week, and at least one additional style: lyrical, contemporary, acro, jazz, tap, musical theatre or hip hop.

Dress code: pink leather (full sole) ballet shoes, pink tights, hair in bun, solid black leotard, light pink hip alignment belt. No skirts please.


Ballet level 4 (instructor placement or audition only)

A structured ballet class where students will have a solid understanding of terminology, steps, positions and combinations. Students will be expected to learn and memorize vocabulary sheets provided by the instructor. There will be periodic quizzes for accuracy and understanding of concepts. Skill tests will be performed for level advancement.

Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter/spring showcase. At this level, it is recommended students take ballet three times a week, and at least two additional classes: lyrical, contemporary, acro, jazz, tap, musical theatre or hip hop. In this level, students will be evaluated to begin pre-pointe class.

Dress code: pink leather (full sole) ballet shoes, pink tights, hair in bun, solid black leotard. No skirts please.


Ballet level 5 (instructor placement or audition only)

A structured intermediate/advanced level ballet class where students will have a clear understanding of terminology, steps, positions and combinations. Students will be expected to memorize vocabulary sheets provided by the instructor. There will be periodic quizzes for accuracy and understanding of concepts. Skill tests will be performed for level advancement. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter/spring showcase. Skill tests will be performed for level advancement. At this level, it is recommended students take a minimum of three ballet classes a week (not including Pointe class), and at least two additional classes: lyrical, contemporary, acro, jazz, tap, musical theatre or hip hop.

Students are individually assessed for Pointework, and those approved for Pointework will also work en Pointe, and take designated Pointe classes. Level 5 students are also eligible to participate in periodic master classes and seminars.

Dress code: pink canvas ballet shoes (split sole SoDanca 16L or Mariia MX14 ), demi/pointe shoes, pink tights, hair in a bun, solid dark color leotard. Skirts are to be worn at the discretion of the instructor.


Ballet level 6 (instructor placement or audition only)

A structured intermediate/advanced level ballet class where students will have a clear understanding of terminology, steps, positions and combinations. Students will be expected to memorize and demonstrate all terms on the vocabulary sheets provided by the instructor. There will be periodic quizzes for accuracy and understanding of concepts. Skill tests will be performed for level advancement. Skill tests will be performed for level advancement. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter/spring showcase. At this level, it is recommended students take three or more ballet classes a week (not including pointe class), and at least three additional styles: lyrical, contemporary, acro, jazz, tap, musical theatre or hip hop.

Students approved for Pointework will also attend designated pointe classes. Students will also be eligible to participate in periodic master classes and seminars.

Dress code: pink canvas ballet shoes (split sole SoDanca 16L), demi/pointe shoes, pink tights, hair in a bun, solid dark color leotard. Skirts are to be worn at the discretion of the instructor.


Pre-Pointe/Pointe (instructor placement or audition only)

A structured intermediate/advanced level ballet class where students will have a clear understanding of terminology, steps, positions and combinations. Students will be expected to memorize and demonstrate all terms on the vocabulary sheets provided by the instructor. There will be periodic quizzes for accuracy and understanding of concepts. Skill tests will be performed for level advancement. Skill tests will be performed for level advancement. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase. At this level, it is required students take three to four ballet classes a week (not including Oointe class), and recommended at least three additional styles: lyrical, contemporary, acro, jazz, tap, musical theatre or hip hop. Students will also be eligible to participate in periodic master classes and seminars.

Primary Acro/Theatrical Jazz: (age 8-12, must be enrolled in ballet class)

AcroDance is a style of Acrobatics developed specifically for dancers. It is the fusion of classical dance technique with the precision and strength of acrobatics. Acro dancers learn to seamlessly blend musicality, expression, and extensions with acrobatic or gymnastic-type skills in a dance context. Conditioning for Primary Acro gives students the foundation needed for Acro Dance. Training will include flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering and tumbling. Students will learn skills through safe progressions taught by a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor.

Dress code: black jazz shoes, light suntan stirrup tights, solid colored leotard, hair pulled back in a bun, ponytail, or braid. Black dance shorts.


Contemporary & Acro 1: (levels 3-6, must be enrolled in ballet class)

AcroDance is a style of Acrobatics developed specifically for dancers. It is the fusion of classical dance technique and the precision and strength of acrobatics. Acro dancers learn to seamlessly blend musicality, expression, and extensions with acrobatic or gymnastic-type skills in a dance context. Conditioning for Acro 1 gives students the strength, foundation and technique needed for Acro Dance. Training will include flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering and tumbling. Mini Lyrical Jazz (age 5-9, must be enrolled in ballet class)

A fun, yet structured introductory jazz and lyrical class. Students will learn basic jazz and hip hop terminology, steps, and positions. They will practice warm ups, stretches, center work, and across the floor exercises. Class is set to current age appropriate music that both the students and parents are sure to enjoy! Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress code: skin color “Pirouette” lyrical shoes, black jazz shoes, light suntan stirrup tights, solid colored leotard, hair pulled back in a bun, ponytail, or braid. Black dance shorts.


Lyrical Jazz 1/2 (age 11 and up or with instructor approval, must be enrolled in ballet class)

This introductory lyrical jazz class is a fusion of ballet, modern and jazz techniques. The dancers will use their solid technical background to provide a base for this style. The movement and choreography learned in this class will be more contemporary, emotional or tell a story. Dancers will warm up, stretch, and go across the floor before learning a combination or working together in groups to create their own unique choreography. Improvisation and other exercises to increase creativity and spatial awareness will also be included. The class will often conclude with a cooldown or relaxation exercise. Students will learn both jazz and lyrical style choreography and will perform in our winter and spring showcase.

Lyrical Jazz 2/3 (instructor placement or with instructor approval, must be enrolled in ballet class)

Jazz is composed of sharp and fluid movements, which creates a visually technical dance style. With a focus on jazz technique and varying styles of choreography, this class will allow dancers to build on their ballet technique to become a more well-rounded dancer. Each week, students will begin class with a proper warm up, stretches and strength conditioning exercises to improve endurance, flexibility and control. Center and across-the-floor exercises are tailored to many different levels and ages of dancers throughout the class as we explore familiar, as well as new movements and techniques. Different styles of choreography and music are introduced each week to provide an exciting and challenging learning environment. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase. Students are encouraged to try new things, get outside of their comfort zone and have fun!

Dress code: skin color “Pirouette” lyrical shoes, tan jazz shoes, light suntan stirrup tights, solid colored leotard, hair pulled back in a bun, ponytail, or braid. Black dance shorts.


Intermediate/Advanced Lyrical, Inversions, & Partnering (instructor placement or audition only)

This intermediate lyrical class is a fusion of ballet, modern and jazz techniques. The dancers will use their solid technical background to provide a base for this style. Mini Hip Hop (age 4-8)

A fun, yet structured introductory hip hop class. Students will learn basic hip hop terminology, steps, and positions. They will practice warm ups, stretches, center work, and across the floor exercises. Class is set to current age appropriate music that both the students and parents are sure to enjoy! Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress code: bare feet/dance socks, black pants or shorts, solid color shirt, hair pulled back in a bun, ponytail, or braid.


Beginning/Intermediate Hip Hop (ages 11+):

Students will receive an introduction to Hip Hop with across the floor progressions, tricks, and choreography. This high energy class will challenge dancers to take their ballet and contemporary training and morph it into a groovy, fun and unique style. We will explore a variety of styles: street style, grooves, funk, locking, and more.

Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase. Dress Code: Students may wear loosely fitted shorts/pants and shirts. Wear CLEAN and non-marking tennis shoes or socks. Hair must be pulled back into a ponytail unless specified by the instructor.


Mini Musical Theatre (age 4-8)

This class focuses on beginning jazz technique and introducing Broadway styling. The instructor will teach students to characterize their movement based on music and musical themes as well as encouraging students outside of their comfort zone. Mini Musical Theatre will help young dancers with stage presence and performance while having fun and learning classic technique. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress Code: black jazz shoes, solid colored leotard, black dance shorts, light suntan tights, hair pulled back in a ponytail, braid, or bun.


Int/Adv Broadway (level 4 and up or with instructor approval, must be enrolled in ballet class)

Broadway focuses on jazz technique and Broadway styling. The instructor will teach students to characterize movement and introduce them to a variety of Broadway music and choreography. The class will help dancers to perform in a variety of styles and emphasize the importance of stage presence. As the class progresses, students will get the opportunity to create their own unique choreography. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress code: tan jazz shoes, solid color leotard or form fitting shirt, solid shorts or jazz pants, hair pulled back in a ponytail, braid or bun.


Mini Tap (ages 5-9)

Tap dance centers on a fun, jazz style accompanied by the sound of the dancers’ taps! Mini tap is for our youngest dancers who wish to start a new style of dance! This class starts a tapper’s journey, teaching them key points of tap dancing. Dancers will learn basic tap steps, and begin to find rhythm within the group. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter/spring showcase.

Dress code: tan lace-up tap shoes, solid color leotard, light suntan tights, hair pulled back in a ponytail, braid or bun. Black dance shorts.


Beginning Tap (ages 7-11)

Beginning tap is for young dancers who are new to tap or who have some prior tap experience. This class focuses on building dancers’ repertoire of tap steps, rhythm, and timing within a group. Students will learn the foundational steps of tap (shuffles, flaps, toes, heels, etc.) and learn how to put them together in elementary tap steps. Buffalos, shim shams, basic time steps, waltz clogs, will be taught in addition to introductory turning steps. Students will focus on timing and making their sounds clear and concise, as well as learn to execute steps in multiple directions. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress code: tan lace-up tap shoes, solid color leotard, light suntan tights, hair pulled back in a ponytail, braid or bun. Black dance shorts.


Intermediate Tap (ages 12+)

This class is for more advanced students with several years of prior tap experience and focuses on musicality, rhythm, and more advanced tap steps. Students will learn intermediate to advanced tap steps including multiple versions of time steps, pullbacks, drawbacks, etc. Students will practice a variety of turns in the class and as well as learn some tap “trick/novelty” steps. Students will focus on timing, rhythm, clear and concise sounds, and speed. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase.

Dress code: tan lace-up tap shoes, solid color leotard, light suntan tights, hair pulled back in a ponytail, braid or bun. Black dance shorts.


Adult Tap (ages 16+)

This adult class is perfect for our older teens and adults who want to get back into dance! The level of the class is dependent on the level of the students, and progressions are available for dancers of all levels. Students will learn the foundational steps of tap (shuffles, flaps, toes, heels, etc.) and learn how to put them together in elementary tap sequences. Buffalos, shim shams, basic time step, waltz clogs, etc. will be taught in addition to introductory turning steps. Students will focus on timing and making their sounds clear and concise, as well as learn to execute steps in multiple directions. Choreography will be taught for performance in the winter and spring showcase and participation in the performance is optional.

Dress code: tan lace-up tap shoes, solid color leggings, solid color shirt, hair pulled back in a ponytail, braid or bun.


Male dancers (all levels)

Dress code: white form fitting T-shirt, black tights, white “tights socks”, dance belt, white or black ballet shoes, hair pulled back.


Stretch, Strength, & Conditioning (level 4 and up, or ages 16 and up)

Our stretch and strength class is helpful for all students who wish to increase flexibility, strength and stamina. This class is designed for older teens and adults, but may be taken by our level 4-6 students as well. Exercises are a fusion of ballet, yoga and Pilates. This class will include stretching, core exercises, work with a resistance band, and strengthening exercises. These exercises are important to improve posture, technique and help prevent injuries. Please bring a stretch band and yoga mat to class.

Dress code: Yoga socks or ballet shoes, solid color leotard or form fitting shirt, solid color tights or leggings, hair pulled back.


Adult Ballet (ages 16+)

A beginning/intermediate ballet class for older teens and adults. Level of difficulty will be based on the level of students enrolled. Students will learn and practice basic ballet vocabulary, steps and positions. Class will consist of barre work, center exercises, across the floor and short choreography combinations. A great way for adults new to ballet or jazz or revisiting dance to get moving and have fun! Adult students are not required to participate in performances, although performing is an option for those who wish to showcase their technique and artistry.

Dress code: Ballet shoes, solid color leotard or shirt, solid color tights or leggings, hair pulled back.

Classes Coming Soon:

Mommy & Me (age 1-3 with a parent)

This 30-minute class is designed to stimulate coordination skills, listening skills, balance, music interpretation and much more for children ages 1 (who are walking) through 3 years old. The use of props, music, and games allow each mom to help her child develop motor and coordination skills in a fun and structured environment with the help of a dance instructor. *parents will participate in the class with their child.

Dress Code: Loose, comfortable clothing, ballet shoes or yoga socks, hair pulled back.


Progressing Ballet Technique & Intermediate Ballet (level 3 and up or with instructor approval)

Progressing Ballet Technique is an innovative body conditioning and strengthening program that helps students understand alignment, placement, and muscle memory. The exercises learned in PBT class help to improve core stability, and strengthen the dancer from head to toe. The class will be divided up into two sections- PBT exercises, and ballet technique. PBT exercises help to warm up and stabilize the body and also provide excellent injury prevention. The ballet technique portion will help dancers utilize the PBT tools throughout class to increase balance, stamina and strength. This class is taught by a certified Progressing Ballet Technique instructor.

Dress code: bare feet or yoga socks, pink ballet shoes, pink tights (rolled up for first half of class) solid color leotard, hair pulled back.


Stretch & Strength for Dancers (level 3 and up)

Our stretch and strength class is important for all serious students who wish to increase flexibility, strength and stamina. Exercises are a fusion of ballet, yoga and Pilates. This class will include stretching, core exercises, work with a resistance band and light strengthening exercises. These exercises are important to improve posture, technique and help prevent injuries. Please bring a theraband, and yoga mat to class.

Dress code: Yoga socks or ballet shoes, solid color leotard or form fitting shirt, solid color tights or leggings, hair pulled back.


Beg/Int ATTP Company Combo: (age 7-12)

Great for competitive dancers! Students will learn new styles and choreography each week. Learning new techniques and combinations each week will increase artistry, choreography retention, which also helps dancers prepare for auditions, conventions, and competitive performances.

Dress code: Skin color Pirouette lyrical shoes (or shoes appropriate to the weekly style), solid color leotard, hair pulled back, light suntan or pink tights. Dance shorts or skirts are optional.


Int/Adv ATTP Company Combo: (age 13 and up or with instructor approval)

This class is a must for teen competitive dancers! Students will learn new styles and choreography from a variety of in-house and guest faculty each week. Learning new techniques and combinations each week will increase artistry and choreography retention, which also helps dancers prepare for auditions, conventions and competitive performances.

Dress code: Skin color Pirouette lyrical shoes (or shoes appropriate to the weekly style), solid color leotard, hair pulled back, light suntan or pink tights. Dance shorts or skirts are optional.


Homeschool Ballet: (age 6+)

This class takes place during daytime hours, and makes a great introduction to ballet for homeschooled students, or a supplemental class for students in levels 1-3 who want to take additional hours of ballet. Students will be expected to memorize provided vocabulary sheets, and to complete some additional take-home learning about dance theory.

Dress code: pink leather (full sole) ballet shoes, pink tights, hair in bun, forest green leotard, light pink belt. No skirts please. Students currently enrolled in level 2 or 3 may wear the leotard color corresponding to that level.
